As a territorial fish, the Blue Paradise will defend its area from other tank mates, making it suitable to be kept with other large, semi-aggressive fish. Smaller tank mates might become prey, so caution should be exercised when selecting tank companions. It’s essential to keep only one adult male per aquarium, as they are prone to fierce battles akin to Bettas.
Breeding the Blue Paradise can be an exciting endeavor. To induce spawning, reduce the water level and increase the temperature. The male will build a bubblenest beneath a large leaf to store the eggs. Breeding is relatively easy, and a successful spawning can result in up to 500 fry. After hatching, the fry can be fed infusoria, and as they grow older, brine shrimp.
A well-balanced diet is vital to the health of the Blue Paradise. Being an omnivore, it requires both algae-based foods and meaty foods. Providing an algae-based flake food, along with freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp, will offer these fish the essential nutrition they need to thrive.
