PREVIEW: RIDE WITH CLINTON

$19.99

Rather than work with a spectator, Clinton decides to do something completely different. He wants the audience to watch him train a horse without the assumption that he’s being filmed. Clinton wants you all to see the thought process he goes through when training a horse at home without the cameras. While it’s a little bit of a different style, he thinks it will be beneficial to all viewers. This is recorded in more of a commentary manner of Clinton’s thought process rather than the teaching style of other videos.

Clinton is riding Tyrion, a 2-year-old stud colt that’s had about 36 rides total. Clinton says he’s a great horse and he’s coming along nicely with his training. Without any set plan, Clinton decides to show you how he uses the natural environment to train his horse. When Tyrion does something good, Clinton will comment on it. When Tyrion does something Clinton doesn’t like, Clinton will comment on it.

Training begins with lateral flexion. Clinton tells us that every time he gets on Tyrion and asks the horse to flex his head from side to side, he gets a little softer each time. He’s flexing better every day, which is a good sign of progress through training. When Clinton is happy with how Tyrion is flexing, he works on the Bending at the Walk exercise and then begins doing the Serpentine Exercise to see if he can get Tyrion’s rib cage a little softer.

Next, Clinton wanders out into the open to change the pattern. You don’t want to be predictable in your training. Variation is important to keep your horse using the thinking side of his brain and not anticipating your cues. Clinton tells us that he likes the Serpentine Exercise because it helps to get the kinks and stiff spots out of your horse while keeping him guessing as to what you’re going to do. Remember, when horses know exactly what you’re going to do and when you’re going to do it, they try to start getting one step ahead of you and cheating you a little bit. The Serpentine Exercise helps to keep things fresh. Clinton continues his training as he wanders into new terrain with Tyrion.
