Description
To accommodate the Golden Black Lyretail Molly’s needs, provide an aquarium of at least 30 gallons with ample room to swim and plenty of algae. The male’s tall dorsal fin requires sufficient space to develop properly. When selecting tankmates, choose peaceful fish that also thrive in hard water with elevated salt levels.
Distinguishing the male from the female is relatively easy, as the male sports a pointed anal fin and a larger dorsal fin, while the female has a rounded anal fin and a pregnancy spot. For breeding, a spawning box in a 25-gallon or larger breeding tank is necessary. Dense plantings or a thick algae mat will facilitate breeding, and having a group of floating plants in the corner of the aquarium promotes rearing outside of the breeding tank. Every 60-70 days, the female will give birth to 10-60 young, already measuring approximately half an inch in length.
The Golden Black Lyretail Molly is an omnivore, requiring a balanced diet of meaty foods and algae. Offer them an algae-based flake food, along with freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp, to ensure their overall well-being and vitality.
